Gutes Zitat / Brilliant Quote No. 1: Gemeinschaft

Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Gemeinsames Leben, Seite 24

„Those who love their dream of a Christian community more than the Christian community itself become destroyers of that Christian community even though their personal intentions may be ever so honest, earnest, and sacrificial.“

Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945), Life Together, Page 36

My second preaching in English: Galatians 5,16-21 / Rotten Fruits

Veit Claesberg at Belmont Chapel Exeter, 2012Here’s my second sermon in English; held in the Belmont Chapel in Exeter on Sunday, 07. October. I preach about the big fight in our life. The old Adam and the Holy Spirit are still fighting in our heart boxing ring.

This passage of the scripture is very difficult. Sometimes it seems like a paradox.
A quote from Nils Bohr, a great Danish physicist (1885-1962), helped me to understand the passage. He said: „How wonderful that we have met with a paradox. Now we have some hope of making progress.“

I did it: I preached my first time in English

Belmont Chapel Exeter, UK One of my goals on my sabbatical, was once preaching in English. Last Sunday I did it at the Belmont Chapel Exeter. It was a great experience for me.

So if you want to hear a sermon from a German guy, with a strong German accent and some big grammatical mistakes while he was preaching … you might download the preaching here: http://www.belmontchapel.org.uk/talks

I preached about our relationship to Jesus and how to live in this relationship as brothers and sisters. I tried very hard to understand what Apostle Paul means when he wrote his letter to Galatian Churches. The passage was Galatians 5:13-15.

UK 2: The Prayer of Saint Patrick

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinitiy,
through the belief in the Threeness,
through the confession of the Oneness,
of the Creator of creation

I arise today
Through the strength of Christ´s birth with his baptism,
through the strength of his crucifixion with his burial,
through the strength of his ressuraction with his ascension,
through the strength of his descent for the judgement day…

Christ to shield my today
Against poison, against burning,
against drowning, against wounding,
so what there may come to me abundance of reward.
Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
through belief in the Threeness,
through confession of the Oneness,
of the Creator of Creation,
