My second preaching in English: Galatians 5,16-21 / Rotten Fruits

Veit Claesberg at Belmont Chapel Exeter, 2012Here’s my second sermon in English; held in the Belmont Chapel in Exeter on Sunday, 07. October. I preach about the big fight in our life. The old Adam and the Holy Spirit are still fighting in our heart boxing ring.

This passage of the scripture is very difficult. Sometimes it seems like a paradox.
A quote from Nils Bohr, a great Danish physicist (1885-1962), helped me to understand the passage. He said: „How wonderful that we have met with a paradox. Now we have some hope of making progress.“

I did it: I preached my first time in English

Belmont Chapel Exeter, UK One of my goals on my sabbatical, was once preaching in English. Last Sunday I did it at the Belmont Chapel Exeter. It was a great experience for me.

I preached about our relationship to Jesus and how to live in this relationship as brothers and sisters. I tried very hard to understand what Apostle Paul means when he wrote his letter to Galatian Churches. The passage was Galatians 5:13-15.

UK 2: The Prayer of Saint Patrick

St. Patrick (um 470 n.Chr.) war zwar hauptsächlich in Irland unterwegs, aber das Gebet von ihm hat es in sich. Passt gut zum Start unseres UK-Trips. Er hat es seinen Brüdern zum Schutzgebet empfohlen:

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinitiy,
through the belief in the Threeness,
through the confession of the Oneness,
of the Creator of creation

Through the strength of Christ´s birth with his baptism,
through the strength of his crucifixion with his burial,
through the strength of his ressuraction with his ascension,
through the strength of his descent for the judgement day…
